Today I’m going to let everyone in on my stain treating secret. This one is huge, you guys! Seriously life-changing, especially for those of us trying to squeeze every last minute out of our days. Laundry may not be exciting or fancy, but it is a consistent presence in life. It used to consume way too much of my time, but not anymore. This one falls right in line with our motto, “Work smarter, not harder”!
The “Before” Method
I used to be the queen of stains: I had an elaborate plan of action for each type of stain. I had an arsenal of 10 different products, each tailored to act on a certain protein. Hydrogen peroxide for blood, blue Dawn for grease, and the list goes on. I was perfectly happy with the process I had developed, as well as the results.
Fast forward to child #2. The problem created by this otherwise joyous occasion was a newfound lack of time. Like whoa. My before method took time. A lot of time. And elbow grease, patience, perseverance. All of the things a new mom, and especially one with more than one child, absolutely does not have. So the new (BEST EVER) method came to be.
The “After” Method
I discovered this top-secret method quite by accident, thanks to the aforementioned second child. OxiClean* had been in my lineup for some time, but in very different ways. For stains I would spot-treat with the spray and scrub the area with a toothbrush. I would also add the powder to a regular wash load on cold.
However, one particular day I had a large pile of the baby’s items covered in poop and spit-up (mom life is so glamorous!), and I’m pretty sure the toddler had peed her pants. Out of exhaustion, I added a full scoop of OxiClean* powder to a bucket of hot water and threw all the items in to soak. I then proceeded to completely forget they were there.
2 days later I found them sitting in the bucket, COMPLETELY STAIN-FREE. As if some magical elf had come during the night, taken my clothes to his magical stain removal land, and returned them in brand-new condition the next night. No scrubbing or laying on the elbow grease. No list of different concoctions and multiple steps for removal. No time invested other than filling a bucket with some hot water and OxiClean* powder. I just went on to handle the 21 other things on the list.
The BEST Laundry Stain Treating Method
So here it is: OxiClean* + hot water + 24-48 hours = no stains. It works on stubborn dirt, grass, blood, poop and pee, pen and marker, and more!
I check the items I’m treating after 24 hours, after which time most of the stains have vanished. Some stains are stubborn and need to stay in for 48 hours, though. Once the treatment is done, I rinse and throw into the washing machine with the next load. Anything left after the stain treating soak washes away with the agitation from the machine.
Note: I did notice some dye leaching with very dark items. For those I switched to cold water only, always treat separately, and only soak for a maximum of 24 hours. This applies to many LuLaRoe items. However, only spot-treat delicate laces, chiffons, and items from the Elegant Collection.
Since my new BEST EVER method uses quite a bit of OxiClean*, I enrolled for subscribe & save and save money!
